Is The World Ready For Virtual Reality Yet?

Virtual Reality headsets have been around for a very long time. The first VR headset meant for gaming was created back in 1991. It was from a company named Sega. After that, a lot of different companies tried their hand at VR. But it did not quite catch the market like other Technologies. Such as smartwatches, smartphones, gaming consoles, and many more. There were many reasons as to why VR did not succeed.

Early Days of VR

During the early days, VR did not have the processing power to showcase what we wanted in real-time. It was just a display in front of our eyes. Since then, VR has come a long way with many new technologies. Such as gyroscope, eye tracking, and processing power. But even though all these advancements were made. People were not as attracted to it as other smart devices.

One of the main reasons why many people don’t buy virtual reality headsets is the eye strain. The screen pixels are kept right in front of our eyes. No matter how good the resolution is, it is only a few centimeters away from our eyes. And that causes a strain if kept for longer periods. Unlike mobile phones and laptops, you can use them for a lot of time before you get eye strain. That’s not the case for virtual reality headsets. People with eyesight have an even bigger problem. Most VR’s are made for people who have good eyesight.

Also due to very little content on VR, more people are not preferring to buy it. The amount of accessible stuff is much less in virtual reality. Even though Mark Zuckerberg has been working on this for a long time. He has kept a lot of money in the meta-universe. But it is still running at a loss. This is due to less content available. Just a few games and apps are not enough for people to buy an expensive headset.

Apple Vision Pro Release

Recently Apple came out with its latest product. The Apple Vision Pro. This is a really expensive product even for Apple. It starts at 3500 dollars and goes up to 4000 dollars. That is a very huge amount for the common man. The Technology present on the Vision Pro is mind blowing. There are many cameras and infrared sensors which track our eyes to see everything in real time. Apple has spent a lot of money on research in developing this product. People have started buying it but nobody knows the future of how it will hold. Only the rich people are currently buying the product.

Another reason why people don’t buy virtual reality headsets is because they are heavy and uncomfortable. This is right on your head not allowing us to do anything else. And the battery backups also suck. If more people had bought it, maybe the development would have gone a lot faster. But people don’t seem to be much interested in VR right now.

The meta universe created by Mark Zuckerberg did not live up to its expectations. They invested billions of dollars into it but the graphics were bad compared to today’s standards. This caused a lot of people to lose interest in VR. They expected a lot more since it took a very long time to develop.

The Future of VR

But each day, the amount of VR content is growing rapidly. And because Apple released a product, it has a large influence over the sector. It is one of the leading companies in the world. So we might see more copycats and cheaper products. That can cause the VR industry to boom. And that is a good thing. Because we have been seeing a lot of uses for virtual reality headsets. Doctors have been using them during surgeries. Architects have been using them to understand the structure of a building. And there are many more cases where it will be useful to the society.
